Gunner Skale An Eye of Minds Story The Mortality Doctrine eBook James Dashner

The most bad ass gamer in the history of the VirtNet finally gets his own novel, sort of. I can't lie, I was kinda disappointed with this novel. In terms of writing, characters, and environment the short story really shines. Getting to see Gunner Skale being awesome after being talked about so much in the first novel was amazing. The only problem was that it doesn't happen like that.

This novel did not feel like a prequel at all. It was a prequel "technically" however it felt more like a glimpse into the life of a man we keep getting told is important. And then, right when he has the opportunity to be super awesome, he just doesn't. It was actually kind of let down with the way things turned out. And I understand that the author was trying to prove a point. No matter how awesome Gunner Skale thought he was, he was still messing with something that no mere human would be able to defeat. But if the novella was going to end that way than I would have liked some more story first.

My gripe really boils down to the fact that I did not feel like I had a chance to really connect to the character before he was taken away from me. With that being said you are amazing Dashner. You made me care for a guy I only read about 40 pages on. Then took him away before I could understand him better. Ouch. 4/5.

Gunner Skale An Eye of Minds Story The Mortality Doctrine eBook James Dashner Reviews

I liked this added piece of information to the Mortality Doctrine series. I devoured the first book and this deeper look into the most famous gamer in this series was awesome. There is a lot to this series and this book certainly opened up my mind to a lot of questions I hope get answered!

Suggest this book for the Geek and Gamers.
Yes - I loved every word of this book.
But I thought it was a full novel.
Not just a short story.
Guess that's the thing about e-books.
You never really know when the next page is the last page.
This provides interesting insight into an otherwise minor character in The Mortality Doctrine. It was an enjoyable read, and I'm glad Dashner expanded this suspicious character as he is mentioned numerous times in the books. I think it should just be free and attached to the end of the second book.
This was crap it was just huge ad I should be better if this book didn’t exist I am very disappointed in this book no wonder it’s two dollars
This is a good prequel on who Gunner Skale is and how he became the keeper of the path. I read the first book of the Morality Doctrine series, "The Eye of Minds", and it was a thrilling book and suck a page turner. We are first introduced to Gunner Skale in the first book and he is ruthless as well as kind of creepy. It seemed as if he has no soul. Then I went ahead and read this prequel and understood more about why he acted the way he acted. If I had read this book before reading the first book of the series I feel a little lost. I'm happy I was able to read this before reading the second book because if Gunner Skale is in the second book then it will be more interesting.
I'm glad I read this after I Read Eye of Minds because there are spoilers included. It was nice to learn more about Gunner Skale but the story ended too abruptly in my opinion.
This is the back story of Gunner Skale, the best gamer on the virt-net. It starts off a bit slow, but by the end you wish there was more. I am starting to see more authors put out mini books like this to give more back story to their characters. I really like the idea, especially since authors have a lot of stuff written down that never gets published. But this information adds a depth to the story and characters that I/fans absolutely love.
