Pants on Fire A Collection of Lies edition by Clayton Smith Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Pants on Fire is a collection of short stories that are most definitely all lies. Some are better than others. Some are funny, some are creepy, some make you think. Overall, I found them to be quite enjoyable, particularly the shorter ones. It’s an odd little book for sure.
One gets transported to alternative realities with each of the stories crafted by Clayton Smith. Take the yarn about Hattie Smith called "The Death (or Life) of Hattie Dunweather". Death comes to the door, but being a cautious single woman of only 37 she does not let him in despite each ruse he tries to employ. I will not spoil the story for you, but promise that if you like rollicking reads with plenty of whimsy you will not be let down. And if this type of writing is quite your thing, check out Melanie Lamaga's book "The Evolution of Reptilian Handbags". Author of a book about living in Baja My Gold Coast--Baja A Practical Guide by Susan A Mahalick
When I started this book I thought "wow, it's a bit over the top". Honestly it didn't take long for me to realize that was a good thing. I quickly fell for the author's quirky sensibilities. It's at times funny, surreal, horrifying, satisfying. I will look to read more by this author.
I’m an avid short story reader who can enjoy just about any genre, but I didn’t fully understand the term “speculative fiction” until I picked up this exciting little collection by Clayton Smith. Prior to this book, I hadn’t read anything by him. Sometimes he treats everyday subjects in absurd ways a groom gets literal cold feet, a literally crazy family has a dinner, and the last two people on earth are interviewed by a TV station. His humor might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I LOVE weird stories. This fits the bill for me.
I don't know what I was expecting with this one, but I am so pleasantly surprised and glad I got it. This collection of short stories is actually very well-done in that there was a bit of variety to it, some better than others, but the vast majority of the stories I considered worth the read. Usually with a collection like this I can get behind about half of them, but this one kept me entertained until the end, even laughing out loud on a few, definitely smirking through many. The author knows how to use the short story genre very effectively, drawing you in with just the right amount of character development without weighing it down with complicated details that don't really contribute to the story. Each story is a fairly quick read, which is good if you're a public transportation reader or just like to read something quick before bed. If you like a little whimsy, a little humor, and a lot of creativity, I would say this collection is for you.
If you’re anything like me, you love to read, but you don’t have the time or energy to sit up until 3am reading “just one more chapter”. Especially when you have an alarm going off at 6am the next day.

You are like me? Awesome! Well...step right up! I’ve got the book for you!

PANTS ON FIRE A COLLECTION OF LIES by Clayton Smith is a book of short stories that will have you staying up until 3am reading “just one more short story”! That, unlike the title of the book, is no lie. I picked it up when it was on a freebie promotion, on recommendation from a friend, but it is well worth the regular price.

The book is filled with 17 (18 if you include the award winning “The Mustache”) short stories. Each one brimming with random goodness that makes you want to keep reading. The best part is depending on how much time you have, you can read one, two or more stories in one sitting.

I read PANTS ON FIRE in three separate sittings because it worked out best that way for me, but I could have easily read it all in one sitting if I had the extra time. It was great! There were a couple stories that were a little slow for my liking, but the rest were just my kind of fun. I can’t tell you which was my favorite because there were a few that instantly were top of the list. You’ll just have to find out for yourselves. ;-)

I have another of Mr. Smith’s books (APOCALYPTICON) on my and am looking forward to digging into that one soon. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it just as much as I did PANTS ON FIRE.
Clayton Smith has crafted a smart, whimsical collection of quick tales that put the author's wit and talent for ironic humor front and center. They read like well-told campfire stories, each with a sly element of magical realism or a clever Twilight-Zone-ish twist—and in some (such as “In the Cards,” my personal favorite) he even sneaks in a thread of real-life poignancy. Clever, twisty and poignant a difficult three-point turn to pull off, but Mr. Smith does it all over the place here, with ease and aplomb. Highly recommended.
The book is very interesting collection of stories and is a really quick read. Some of the stories are better then others but atlas they are far better then anything i could ever do. The book is full of comedy and humor(are they the same thing who knows maybe if you read the book you will find out) it truly shows Clayton Smiths potential I look forward to reading more of his work in the future this book is a must read if you like some good jokes and lies.
